Underwater fish are fascinating to watch, especially in a small river during summer. I placed some groundbait in the river and set up my underwater camera to see what would happen.
The fish found the groundbait very quickly. At first, only a few appeared, but soon a large school gathered along the riverbank to feed. It was fascinating to watch how different species shared the same feeding area. Some stayed close to the bottom, while others moved through the middle of the water, constantly searching for food.
Even while I was carefully walking through the shallow water nearby, the fish kept returning to the groundbait. After a while, they seemed comfortable enough to continue feeding, giving me the opportunity to capture some great underwater footage.
The water was clear on the day I filmed this video, making it possible to see the fish and their behavior beneath the surface. Watching them feed and interact is one of my favorite parts of spending time by the river.

Why Do Fish Gather So Quickly?
Groundbait releases small food particles and natural aromas into the water, making it easier for fish to find the feeding spot. Usually, only a few fish arrive first. As they begin feeding, more fish notice the activity and join them. Before long, a small group can grow into a large school.
In rivers, the current helps carry tiny food particles downstream, attracting fish from different areas. That’s one of the reasons why groundbait is so effective and why underwater filming can reveal such fascinating fish behavior.

I enjoy filming underwater because you never know what the camera will capture. Sometimes only a few fish appear, and other times a whole school gathers in front of the lens. That’s what makes every video different.

Watching fish underwater gives you a completely different perspective than standing on the riverbank. You can see how different species behave, how they search for food, and how they react to each other. Some stay close to the bottom, while others swim through the middle of the water, constantly looking for something to eat.
It’s fascinating to watch a large school gather around the groundbait. Every species behaves a little differently, and that’s what makes underwater filming so interesting. Many of these details are impossible to see from above the surface.
