Where to go for a one-day afternoon trip?

We decided to go to Logar Valley. We went to see the Savinja river, which has long been on my wishlist. This time without fishing gear. We took our camera as part of the mandatory equipment.

We visited the part of Savinja that is managed by Fishing Family Ljubno.

I am attaching a link to their website: http://www.rd-ljubno.si/en

We visited their fishing district Savinja 3 + Catch and Release. I am attaching a link to this district (unfortunately only in Slovenian language) : http://www.rd-ljubno.si/revirji/savinja_3

  • The path leads to the river Savinja.

  • Even without fishing gear, it was a pleasure to watch trophy trout.

  • Beautiful nature.
  • They enjoy duck life.

  • Large number of trout.

  • Clean river and big trout. The true beauty of nature.
  • A huge shadow of a large trout.

  • I found these fly between the stone. How a fly angler lost it is probably the fault of one of the giants in this river.
  • Waiting for lunch…
  • Amazing how many trophy trout are in one place.

They have a very nice fly fishing pond, designed especially for beginner fishermen to train their fly casting.

In the pond, we can mainly catch brown trout and rainbow trout. We can also catch danube salmon, chub, carp, common nase, grayling and pike during fly fishing.

Larger fish are also stocking in the pond, therefore, trophy specimens are also found in the pond.

Next to the pond is a fishing lodge with great food.

  • A pier where we can observe nature and aquatic life.
  • The nature around the pond is wonderful….
  • They are hiding under the pier.
  • The pike is waiting for its prey.

Final words

Clean river, big trout, unspoiled nature, mountains, friendly locals and much more that Logar Valley has to offer. I made many pleasant impressions during the short time that I have been here.

The only thing I really want to do is fly on this beautiful river. This wish will be fulfilled once in the future (maybe next year) when I will be financially able enough to visit this river with a fly rod in my hand. Until then, with the camera in my hand, I will be photographing and filming this beautiful river with big fish in it.

I have often read the topic on the internet if it is possible to catch a carp with a waggler on a hair rig for carp fishing. In fact, it is very similar to carp fishing, except that they are much easier to use instead of heavy lead and that a waggler serves as the bite indicator.

We can use the same carp rigs as for heavy lead bottom carp fishing. I use hooks from size 6 up for this fishing technique, depending on the average size of the carp in the lake.

For bait I use smaller diameters of boilies (8mm to 14 mm), pop up, corn (maize, sweetcorn), artificial – fake bait or hook pellets.

Nom nom

Most often I use particles mix for baiting my fishing spot. I feed with a small amount of particles every 20 minutes with small baiting spoon. When I catch a fish I increase the 3x amount of particle for baiting fishing spot.

With the right tactics and some fishing luck :), bigger carp can be caught.

On the old gravel pit where I usually fish for carp I decided to try my luck at catching a tench. sSunny weather was forecast that day with possible afternoon thunderstorms Maybe I catch one πŸ™?

I chose my fishing spot in front of the water lilies, where I noticed fish activity.

Tactics

I used mixed fish (corn, tigernuts, wheat, hemp), boilies, pellets and ground bait to attract tench.

I bait regular the fishing spot every 20-30minutes, but in smaller quantities. I did not want to use too much bait for day fishing because the fish would be overeating and probably would not be successful.

I used two smaller sized boilies (10mm) for the bait and the hook number 8.

Fish on…..

I noticed a tench jump from the water near my fishing spot. About 15 minutes later my bite alarm started to scream. I quickly went to the fishing rod and already felt that there was probably tench on the hook. Shortly after, the tench was already on the unhooking mat.

After a quick photo and use of antiseptic I release it back into the lake.

After a long time, i finally caught the tench. I was very happy.

Water from the lake to keep the fish wet.

Just a little bit…………..

………and tench was already swimming back in the lake.

Bye bye beauty :).

Successful day for me πŸ™‚

But there may still be some bite……………..

……………….black clouds were coming from far away and the forecast was not promising. I barely managed to put fishing gear in the car when it started to rain very heavily.

Despite the storm, a very great day was spent by the lake with my darling.

Hmmmmmm… Which fishing cradle to buy was a big question for me. I was looking for one that would be low and long for bigger fish like grass carp and carp.

I’ve only used a unhooking mat in recent years, but since the rules at the lakes are changing (which I really like) it was time to buy a cradle.

And finally…. I found a Fox Carpmaster Cradle XL on the internet that came on the market this year. There are two sizes available: standard and XL.

After some thought, I decided to buy one. My choice was the Fox Carpmaster Cradle XL version.

Big care for Bigger fish

On the first fishing trip with this cradle I took a picture of it.

So far, I am very excited about it and it has proven to be more than excellent and worth buying despite its high price (around 170€).

Always carrying a lot of heavy equipment with me, even on short fishing trips, I decided to buy a lighter and smaller rod below the one I have. I know the easiest choice is banstick, but it is very difficult to get stuck on hard ground (rocks, concrete,…).

I was looking for a black colored rod pod, low height of any mark that would fall into my eyes. After some searching time, I was shortlisted under Fox Stalker A + (Amazon affiliate link), which I eventually bought.

1. Video YouTube

2. Finally i have it

The first impression was very good. Even when opening the box, I was very surprised by his appearance.

3. Rod pod size

Rod pod is very easy and quick to assemble when it becomes routine in about 2-4 minutes. Rod pod is the lowest at 23 cm in height and can be increased to 42.5 cm. Rod pod has the lowest at 23 cm in height and can be increased to 42.5 cm. The minimum length is only 69 cm long and can be extended to a maximum length of 106 cm.

4. A small toy for the big ones

The only doubt I had with this rod pod was that it could be carried away by smaller fish or a little stronger wind. But to me it never happened even though I was fishing very close range or with a much tighter reel.

For greater stability, you can purchase specially made anchors for this rod pod.
